Notes about our stay in this lovely apartment:
One of the best experiences I recently had was staying in one of our flats by Putney Bridge. I was very pleasantly surprised to find that as I walked out of the front door a few yards opposite was Bishops Park Gardens. A further minute walk through the gardens and I was walking parallel to the River Thames – it took 7 absolutely beautiful minutes to walk to the underground/tube station, where outside you will find a flower shop, café, and newsagents to buy your daily paper. Putney Bridge is 6 stops to South Kensington station (approx 12 minutes) and 7 stops to Sloane Square (another 2 mins). It is on the District Line which means you can continue on to Victoria, Westminster and The Tower of London. Alternatively, the No. 22 bus from the bridge takes you to Piccadilly.
Going back to Putney Bridge, if you walk across it you will find a busy, bustling high street. Marks & Spencers, Starbucks, and a wide range of restaurants which includes several Italian, Greek and Chinese restaurants, and an Australian pub and of course the famous Boat House Pub (on the left going across the bridge) which leads right down to the river. This is London that most visitors don't experience! The piece-de-resistance was the Bishops Palace (entrance to the left of the park) where on my last afternoon I found the Drawing Room Café, sat outside looking towards the lawn where the most lazy of us lounged in deck chairs – my lunch of fish pie (heaven), followed by a pot of tea and scones with cream and jam was the best ever. It was so quiet and hard to believe that the town was so close.
